Mace appointed to design and deliver new and highly efficient civic offices

04/10/2010
Mace has been appointed by Telford & Wrekin Council to help with the design and delivery of its new civic offices. The council has proposed to rationalise its offices into three buildings, using "New Ways of Working" to achieve space savings and optimise service provision.
The council commissioned Mace to carry out a space utilisation audit in February 2010. The objective was to determine how efficiently Telford & Wrekin Council is utilising its office space and to identify how changes can be implemented, how working conditions can be improved, and how efficiency can be increased.
Cabinet approval was given for a new civic offices building in light of the anticipated disposal of the existing civic offices site to ASDA. The council is expecting to relocate into its new offices in early 2013.
The new civic office building is likely to be one of the first developments in Southwater, so it must set the benchmark for quality of design and construction. The development comprises a five-storey building consistent with modern, sustainable office design. It will provide 8000 square metres of office space, 500 square metres of retail and a new lake. It is on track to achieve a BREEAM "excellent" rating.
