Mace appointed on Fieldgate Street student accommodation development

Mace has been appointed by Fieldgate Street Investment LLP to deliver a new student accommodation development at 14 Fieldgate Street, London.
The £19.3m development comprises 339 student rooms, nine residential apartments, a reception and ground level retail areas. Mace has been appointed on a fixed-price design and build contract, with works due to start on site this summer and completion scheduled for early 2012.
Operations director for Mace's student accommodation sector Paul Dennis said: "We are absolutely delighted to be involved in this high-quality student accommodation scheme. This is our first project with Fieldgate Investment LLP and we have commenced a very productive working relationship, which we hope to continue to develop over the next 20 months."
Construction of the new build will feature reinforced concrete up to the second floor and lightweight steel framework on the floors above. Prefabricated bathroom pods will be installed to reduce the waste produced on site.
The development, located between Aldgate East and Whitechapel underground stations, will provide convenient transport links to London Metropolitan University and other universities around London. The surrounding area will also benefit from a substantial regeneration as a result of the Aldgate masterplan, providing a desirable area for students to live.
