Mace completes Qurum City Centre Mall, Oman

24/11/2008

Mace Group has successfully delivered Qurum City Centre, the first in a series of community malls that MAF is planning to develop across the region. Strategically located in the commercial hub of Muscat's upmarket Qurum area, the opening of this new-build mall on the 27th October was a resounding success, with 85% of shops trading on the first day, including the Carrefour hypermarket.

This project highlights Mace's successful relationship with Majid Al Futtaim Group (MAF) and as well as the company's thriving presence in the Sultanate of Oman.

The Qurum City Centre is a contemporary shopping mall flooded with light and located approximately 30km from the vastly popular Muscat City Centre, a development also project managed by Mace.

Meeting the opening date deadline was a significant achievement considering the setbacks faced at an early stage of the project. Shortly after completion of the sub-structure, floodwater from Hurricane Gonu submerged the site. This necessitated clearing of vast soil deposits and site reinstatement works. Extensive hydrological studies followed that resulted in a significant re-design of the structure as well as foundation improvement works. As ever the Mace team met the challenges.

Long-standing client MAF attributed the resounding success of this project to a uniquely proactive and positive team spirit that was maintained throughout the project. The client also congratulated the project team on a unique and seamless coordinated effort.

The project commenced in July 2007 and consisted of a retail mall construction and fit-out of approx 58,700m2 gross floor area. This includes the 21,500m2 Carrefour hypermarket, and a 2-storey car park of 19,135m2.
