Mace Group projects dominate London Town Planning Awards 2009

27/02/2009

Past, present and potentially future Mace projects played a big part at the London Town Planning Awards for 2008. The London Planning Awards recognise outstanding achievements in planning by individuals and organisations that have made a special contribution towards London's future.

Out of the 8 overall winners, 4 involved Mace projects including More London (Best Built Project), Paternoster Square (Best Built Project 5 years on), Aldgate Union Masterplan (Best Concept Project) and Kings Cross HS1 (Mayor's Special Planning Award). Other nominated projects were the ODA for their Inclusive Design Strategy and Standards and The Willis Building, 51 Lime Street. Mayor of London Boris Johnson commented: "I was looking forward to seeing entries that improve the quality of life for Londoners and I have not been disappointed. However, since we launched the awards, the economic climate has dramatically changed. I strongly believe that we must press ahead with planning and developing our city and particularly our major infrastructure projects to ensure London emerges from this downturn strong and competitive. And that is where our planners and designers have a major role to play so that we do not just build the functional and mundane but capture the imagination."

The awards were followed by a reception at City Hall attended by delegates from most of the London Councils, some of Mace Group's key clients and consultants.
