Mace involved in one fifth of UK's top regeneration schemes

09/04/2010

The annual Top 100 Regeneration Projects 2010 list has been revealed by Regeneration & Renewal's at this year’s Mipim conference and Mace is proud to be involved in just over a fifth of the named schemes. Now in its fourth year, the Regeneration & Renewal top 100 list is a unique listing of the biggest and most valuable physical regeneration schemes in the UK with the Olympic Park coming top of the list as the UK’s most valuable scheme.

Mace is or has been involved in twenty-one of the named schemes throughout the UK stretching from the Southgate Centre in Bath to Brent Cross in North London, from Holt Town Waterfront in East Manchester to Union Square in Aberdeen and with roles ranging from delivery partner on the Olympic Park and Birmingham Gateway to project managers on the Chatham Maritime Medway project, Barking Riverside and Kings Cross Central projects among others.

Mace has been involved in a number of these projects from their inception to their completion most especially in cities such as Manchester and Birmingham and with London Borough Councils. Four of the twenty one projects Mace is involved in are, alone, a result of our partnership with Advantage West Midlands including the Icknield Port Loop project, the Birmingham Gateway development, Longbridge Technology Park and Ansty Park Manufacturing and Technology Centre.

Residing at number forty on the list is the regeneration of Bracknell Town Centre project, Mace was appointed by Bracknell Regeneration Partnership back in 2006 and has been working on the large scale regeneration project ever since. Scheduled for completion in 2013 the retail led regeneration project comprises more than 3m ft² of new construction together with associated highways modifications and infrastructure improvements. In addition to this the project is highly focussed on providing a sustainable solution including affordable housing, sustainable transport, low energy buildings, green energy, water conservation, improved ecology, waste reduction, and high quality public realm.

Mace offers the programme management services it is delivering in Bracknell to a number of other regeneration clients many of which are included on this list including the Rochdale Development Agency, the North West Development Agency and Hackney Homes. The Mace approach brings a unique culture of control to the complex, multi-agency programmes that area-wide regeneration involves and allows our regeneration team to not limit themselves to the physical aspects of regeneration but engage fully in the social, economic, planning and community issues that are invariably part of the mix.

Although proud to be involved in some of the country’s biggest regeneration projects of the last year, the regeneration team continues to look to the future. Having developed a reputation in the regeneration sector since our first foray into the market as programme manager on the reconstruction of Manchester city centre after the 1996 bombing, our strength lies in our people, experience and relationships. As stated by John Boulby, Mace operations director, in the January edition of Regeneration and Renewal “we have long-term relationships with clients and win work by our network and knowledge rather than by bidding for it. Regeneration is one area where people come to us. The public sector squeeze will not drive us out of regeneration."
