Mace takes over responsibility for museum base build completion

10/08/2009
Mace has been appointed by client National Museums Liverpool (NML) to undertake the base build project management role on the £72m Museum of Liverpool project. Until recently Mace was working with NML on the £41m base build contract as client advisor, project management support and design coordinator. The Mace project team will now work until building handover at the end of the year.
The Museum which is currently taking shape on Liverpool's Pier Head is the largest newly built national museum in Britain for almost a century providing 8,000 square metres of public space across three floors, and visitors will have access to over 6,000 objects that are currently in storage, many of which have never been on public display before. The Museum will provide a fascinating experience for over 750,000 visitors annually, combining art, social history, popular culture and education all housed in a unique building with exemplar environmental credentials setting a standard for all national museums in the UK.
Mace project director Mike Fotherby said: “The client has placed a tremendous amount of faith in the Mace team that we will deliver to completion of base build. We are delighted that the client is so happy with the Mace approach and ethos that they have appointed us to take this vitally important project to base build completion. The appointment is a great credit to the Mace team and is testament to Mace’s extensive experience in the arts and culture sector."
