Public sector teams asks 'are you getting the most of out of your assets?'

12/07/2009

The public sector offices team has compiled a case study of the work they have been doing with Hertfordshire County Council on its office transformation scheme. The case study highlights how the transformation of working environments and practices can translate into measurable benefits in the delivery of core services.

Seeking efficiencies at a local government level has been high on the agenda since the Gershon and Lyons reports were published in 2004. While the former focused on seeking efficiencies in public spending, the latter considered relocation and dispersal of local government workforces both in terms of monetary savings and as a spur for adopting new ways of working and reforming organisational culture.

The provision of a nurturing and efficient workplace reflecting changing work styles, new technologies and evolving workplace cultures is now as important in the public sector as in the commercial world and the link between improved working environments and increased productivity and efficiency can be observed in both.
