Kettering Borough Council - Southern Site Development
The one concern that I had was what would happen when the Mace contract finishes. The knowledge and drive they have brought has been brilliant. The progress that has been made is phenomenal considering some of the projects have been floating around for four years before Mace arrived and progress has been slow. Now I am confident with their structured approach that momentum will continue.

The 'first choice' in town centres

Mace was appointed by Kettering Borough Council in 2007 to develop and deliver the regeneration of its town centre.

Mace was commissioned by the client initially to look at options for the relocation of the council offices. It was quickly identified that the council wished to redevelop the town centre into a first choice destination to live, shop and play. The project now consists of 16 projects and Mace was further appointed to provide project and programme management systems for the council and will continue to guide the project through the feasibility stage to the procurement of a developer.

The programme of regeneration entails 16 projects including:

  • a brand new redesigned retail quarter
  • development of a restaurant quarter
  • a new residential and leisure unit
  • new council buildings which will exemplify the new life for the town centre
  • a residential and cultural quarter

Mace has developed a strong relationship with the council and has added real value to the project, Julia Beckett, Deputy Chief Executive for Kettering Borough Council stated: "Before Mace came in all the projects were being done separately, Mace made us see the impact this was having on resources and progress. The organisation is one that doesn't 'do' project management on such a scale normally and to come in and achieve what they have in this type of environment has been amazing. They have kept us focused on the things that we need to be thinking about. I have not got a bad word to say and I dont envisage the wheels falling off once they have gone due to the structured work they have put in."
