Information
The primary project objective is the refurbishment of the existing Grade 1 listed buildings of Kings Cross Station and to build a new integrated ticket hall on the west side of the station, all without reducing the capacity of the operating station.
Mace has carried out a comprehensive examination of the existing information and, from this, developed an integrated baseline programme which is cost and resource loaded and incorporates the current and separate enhancements and renewals programmes.
The main components of the construction project are:
- Refurbishment of the eastern range
- Structural repairs to the main shed roof and replacement of the roof covering
- Reconstruction of platforms 1 to 8
- Shortening of tracks to platforms 5 to 8 to enlarge the concourse.
- Construction of a new track and platform Y under the Eastern Range structure (in Cab Road).
- Structural repairs to roof of suburban platforms 9, 10 and 11.
- Refurbishment and redevelopment of the western range and construct in the "bomb gap".
- Construction of a new western concourse (on top of LUL basement station currently under construction).
- Construction of basement plant rooms, shared service yard, access ramp, glass footbridge, escalators, lifts serving platforms 1 to 8.
- Demolition of existing southern concourse.
- Construction of new southern square.
- Interface planning with St. Pancras, LUL, Great Western Hotel
Mace were commissioned to develop the pre-construction programme, to develop the construction methodology and to review proposals received from scheme designers.
