Information

Mace was appointed by Kingston University to lead a multi-disciplinary service offer to undertake a variety of projects ranging from the refurbishment of teaching and social spaces to new infrastructure and new build multifunctional buildings, Sense are providing CDM co-ordination and cost consultancy.

Within three months of its appointment the team organised, tendered and placed orders for the first of the refurbishment projects for the provision of three new laboratories, post graduate learning, toilets and offices spaces. The work commenced prior to completion of term and continued over the summer break to complete in September 2006.

In addition, Mace progressed to Stage D design the refurbishment of the Arts and Architecture faculty at Knights Park and a £16m new build project on the Kingston Hill Campus. These projects involved working closely with the end users and client team to develop and define the brief to meet all stakeholder requirements. Both projects required temporary relocation of existing facilities and personnel. Mace developed a programme management plan to map-out and schedule key activities.

The University is made up of a number of campuses located across Kingston, most of which are on conservation areas. The remit of the project therefore involved negotiations with the Royal Borough of Kingston Planning Department to ensure the works developed to their requirements.

Mace has also undertaken a major feasibility study looking at expanding the Kingston Hill and Penhryn Road campus masterplans.
