Information

The renovation and rebuild of Chandler House for client University College London (UCL) comprised a new 'Centre for Human Communication', a leading research centre for studies in language acquisition, neurobiology of communication, and speech/sign language pathology.

As with other public sector/education commissions Mace brought a high degree of funding knowledge and sensitivity to the workings of higher education bodies. Our project management team was able to bring a powerful combination of programme management control and time/cost certainty to a project that had very tight deadlines, typical in the academic sector.

Mace's role on the centre involved the stripping out to shell and core of a Grade II listed, four storey building, including its roof structure. The building's internal spaces, including an additional floor level and roof structure were rebuilt to provide a combination of laboratory, teaching and office spaces, both cellular and open plan.

The completed refurbished centre is now home to over 160 staff and up to 200 students at any one time.
