Information
Mace Plus was appointed by the London Borough of Richmond Upon Thames, under the IESE Framework, working as the main contractor on a new school to be built in Teddington, South West London. MSeven, Mace Group's specialist mechanical and electrical services contractor, has also been appointed to deliver the M&E package for the school alongside Mace Plus.
The project can be broken down into three distinct phases:
Phase 1 - Enabling works and Advance works
Phase 2 - Main school build
Phase 3 - Demolition of existing school, hard and soft landscaping
The scheme has a total floor area of approximately 10,500 m2 with two all weather sports pitches, car parking and external works. The final phase includes the demolition of the existing school building to make way for the new all weather sports pitch.
Designed by Building Design Partnership (BDP), the main architectural focus is the new 4 storey school building. The building is comprised of a modern envelope construction incorporating a variety of systems such as timber, render and glazing. The efficient layout utilises the footprint to incorporate educational, drama, technological and physical space for effective teaching and learning.
The project presents complex logistical issues with the new building being accessible via one access point on Trowlock Way. Trowlock Island to the North is serviced by a bridge from the end of Trowlock Way and is its only form of access. This therefore dictates that all access to and from the site will be trafficked from Broom Road to the South onto Trowlock Way which will need to retain access for residents to pass to and from the island.
The approach to materials management and access strategy will be critical to the overall success of the project.
